Finger Foley

This week I did a lot of recording for an upcoming library we are working on and sat in with Ric as he worked with the raw sounds I recorded. I learned the valuable lesson to treat every sample you record as if it is gold; Ric was able to pull a lot of cool sounds from what I wasn’t intending to create or record.

I also thought I’d pass along a tip we employed this week for making small feet sounds. We taped pen caps to our fingers and then performed the moves on different surfaces. Check out the pic on the Sound Effects Bible's Facebook page!

RØDE University 2nd Class...

Last week we shot the second class of RØDE University. While on set, I was able to experience a new first of getting to watch old men play hand ball; I am glad to check that off my list.  I also watched my life flash before my eyes as Ric attempted to drive a car while reading a script on camera, dodging “deer trackers”, and making sure everyone was doing their job.  Being on set always makes for an eventful week.  Be sure to look for the second class in the coming weeks and, catch the first one at http://www.rodeuniversity.com/     Jon the Intern

Jorge

We caught a new pet flying around the studio. He is a fly and his name is Jorge. Like any good sound designers/animal rights activists we released him into the Foley room and recorded the daylights out of him. The sounds turned out great; we got some flybys, buzzing, landings, takeoffs, running into a lightbulb, and some of the recordings even worked great for some electrical source material. Jorge has quickly become a valuable and loved member of the Chop Shop Team. Now if only I could find where he flew off to...     Jon the Intern
