Upcoming Library

This week I helped finalize the first library that will be published during my internship at the Chop Shop.  All the file naming and metadata weren’t the most interesting things I’ve done so far, but it was a good learning experience and exciting to see something being finished. There were several times in the process I was glad I had learned the lesson of “always have a back up”.  I had a lot of fun listening to the library in its entirety, after having worked on the sounds. Can’t say what the library is, but be looking forward to something creepy crawly coming in January.  Luckily I didn't have to spend the whole week naming files; Friday I was in the Foley room taking out my built up energy, with a baseball bat and a pile of leather, recording material for punches.

Extremes

Last week I was reminded of a fact that I thought I’d pass along.  When trying to record or get a sound you want, it is always good to start with extremes.  Start at both ends (slow/fast, soft/hard etc...) and work your way to the middle.  This is also helpful after the fact, in case what you thought you wanted isn’t it, you will have a range of things to work with.  This helped me out with trying to get bug impacts on a windshield. Always Be Recording...

This  week I received a valuable lesson; when bodily functions happen during recording be sure to aim them at the microphone.  While I was recording, the pen cap Foley I mentioned last week, a certain individual had the need to expel some gas.  Ric was then able to turn the flatulent into an amazing toxic waste alarm.  If you would like to listen to it it is available for download here:
