Tube Mics

I spent most of last week on set shooting more episodes of RØDE University. One of the classes we shot was on recording sound effects in the studio. For a segment in that class we hit a car hood with a sledge hammer and used RØDE's NTK and K2 tube microphones. They sounded great and I could instantly tell the warmth and low end difference these tube mics made on this loud impact sound.            Jon the Intern

Production Elements

I spent last week sorting and designing cinematic production elements. Production elements are those fun sound design elements you hear in trailers like whooshes, drones, hits, and big slams. I created them by using lots of different "everyday" sounds and processed them and used layers to create more complex effects. Some of the tricks I used were reverb, pitch shifting, and reversing the audio. Production elements can be really abstract which can make it a lot of fun so give it a try and feel free to post any techniques you might come up with.                     Jon the Intern

Writing

I spent this last week working with RIc and Chop Shop producer Gary Allison on some RØDE University scripts covering topics like ENG, radio broadcasting, and sound effects recording.   These videos will be going into production soon, so be sure to keep an eye out for these upcoming installments @ http://www.rodeuniversity.com/                    Jon the Intern
